Based on results of research at Bell Labs, there came a startling discovery about what it took for people to be considered star performers. Even more striking was the role of manager perception, which may or may not be based on competency, impact, and productivity. In this session we’ll look at those 9 characteristics which differentiate “typical” performers from those considered “star” performers. If you ever wondered how some idiots get promoted, often passing up their talented co-workers, you’ll find the answer in this session. You’ll also have the opportunity to think about your own profile against the proven model.

What will you learn or experience as a result of this program or session?
  • You will learn the 9 key differentiators between being seen as a “typical” employee or a “Star” performer.
  • You will learn the 3 differentiators that are most challenging to women and minorities, and what to do about it.
  • You will learn why some get promoted while other, more competent candidates, get passed up.

How might the content of this program or session change your perceptions, habits, ways of working, or view on the world?
  • You might understand better how to be seen as “promotable.”
  • You might understand what you may subconsciously be doing that's shaping others’ perceptions of your competency.
  • You might understand how managers’ perceptions might be altered by their experiences with people and how you can manage up.

How might you apply what you learn or experience in this program or session?
  • You might add or change behaviors that help you to achieve what you'd like at work.
  • You might learn how to “present” yourself without feeling like you're “promoting” yourself, and feel comfortable with that.
  • You might learn how to use Creative Problem Solving as a way to improve your abilities on some of these differentiators.
